My History
Since I was a boy I have been surrounded with dogs. My father was an active competitor for 30 years and he competed in the WUSV World Championship for 5 times. My father always tried to involve me in working with dogs as much as possible and in such a way gave me the basis for all the work I have been doing ever since. I helped my father with training of the dogs and I started to train some other dogs already as a teenager. I also trained my brother and his dog and he managed to classify for the FCI IPO World Championship. I also worked with my wife and prepared her for IFR World Championship. Although I have dedicated most of my time training whoever shows the slightest interest in working with dogs, I have managed to compete in the WUSV World Championship, too.
Working with dogs and working with other handlers and helping them to prepare their dogs for most demanding competitions is a big challenge for me. I always dedicate myself completely to work in my kennel club, where I train prospective dogs and their handlers. A lot of them have won different awards. While still very young I got the licence for helpers and in 1992, at the age of 23, I was selected as a helper in the World Championship in Ljubljana. I try to pass on the acquired knowledge to other members of the club and helpers in Slovenia. Besides I also breed German Shepherds, which take part in many competitions. At the moment I am doing my best to prepare my three and a half year old dog for competitions.
One of big challenges for me is also organising different competitions and so at the age of 29 I succeeded in organising the World Championship for Giant Schnauzer. When I was 31, I organised the 12th FCI IPO World Championship in Nova Gorica and in 2006 I was given the opportunity to organise it again.
I am also aware that just being and working with the dogs is not enough for my professional development. So I always attend different seminars, read books and articles on dog breeding and training and exchange my experience with other successful trainers, helpers, handlers and judges. Since 1998 I have always attended working commission FCI meetings and I have never missed WUSV seminars.

My development in dog sport began in 1967 at 16 years of age with a male German Shepherd as my first dog. The strong character of this particular animal heavily impressed my starting career in dog sport and considerably influenced me years later. He was a very self-confident and dominant male.
From the beginning I had the good fortune to train with a very competent trainer, so that I learned to control the powerful qualities of this dog and integrate him into a public social environment. In this important learning phase, one of the most valuable lesson for me was how to observe and consequently understand dog behaviour and evaluate the quality of their character. In particular, developing the ability to concentrate on observational skills formed the foundation of my subsequent work. From the first day of my training with Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans and other working breed dogs, I had the opportunity, not only to learn how to train a dog, but at the same time to start my career as a helper. My present knowledge to evaluate and analyse canine character qualities can be attributed to the many years of working with dogs, but first and foremost from working as a helper.
From my entry into dog sport right up to today, I performed many functions at inter-regional levels in different breeds and organisations (SV, ADRK, DVG, DV) working as trainer as well as a helper. I was chosen as a helper for regional as well as inter-regional Schutzhund trails and the German championships in ADRK. Additionally, my official responsibilities included 20 years in the position as President in the local ADRK Cologne club and 4 years as Vice-President in the ADRK/ Rheinland regional group. In the 80`s I funtioned as responsible regional and since 2 years I belong to the ADRK training committee. In 1996 I became a working judge in the ADRK. Since that time in Addition to many club trail I judged regional and German championships, FH and VPG-SCH in the ADRK and diverse foreign trails in Italy, South Korea and the USA. During all this time I trained dogs from inter-regional trails to German championship. During all this time I trialled dogs from inter-regional trials to German championships.
Today I see it as my responsibility to bring my knowledge and experience into the training of new helpers. For this reason, over the years my main focus shifted to the training of new helpers for dog sport. As we all know, in current times no dog sport club can successfully exist without available and qualified helpers! The foundation of a successful working dog lies in the hand of a specialized and skilled helper who constructs the building blocks of work for a young dog. These helpers need to have the training and experience to teach the beginner dog and target it to a finished Schutzhund , VPG – IPO working dog.
